Finally finished working on it....
It's, erm, kind of long. And somewhat epic (but then, the Draenei race as a whole were kind of designed to be epic by Blizzard).
Name: Drustai the Shamed
Gender: Female
Age: Venerable
Class: Shadow/Disc Priest / Frost Mage
Professions: Enchanting, Tailoring
Character Background:
Born thousands of years ago, Drustai is well into her adulthood among Draenei, at least in respect to the inhabitants of Azeroth. Though younger by far than the ages-older Prophet Velen and other elders, Drustai is one of several Draenei left that can still recall life on Argus and the coming of the Destroyer of Worlds, Sargeras.
As with many Draenei, then known as Eredar, Drustai lived in the grand city of Mac'Aree. Like many others, however, Drustai remembers little of her life before the Great Exodus. What she can recall are only distant memories lingering at the edge of her mind.
Intelligent and dedicated in her youth, Drustai was quiet and isolated, preferring to keep to herself. She had a great fondness for magic and technology, as well as history and lore of the world, and spent many years delving deeply into her studies. The world around her was but a shadow compared to the images born within her mind as her knowledge grew. The only one whom she was close to was her brother, Alevei, but even that bond was thin, and their relationship was often one of distance.
Perhaps it was because of her lack of social ties that she would make the choices she did. For when Sargeras approached the Eredar, and promised them all the knowledge, power, and immortality that they could wish for, Drustai was one of whom would choose to side with the Man'ari--Archimonde, and Kil'jaeden--and join what was to become the Burning Legion. Her judgement plagued by lies and no small amount of Fel corruption, Drustai, as with the other Man'ari Eredar, saw Velen and his Draenei "Exiled Ones", as traitors and cowards. War loomed on the horizon, and it was all but on the doorstep of Argus until Velen was approached by the Naaru--celestial beings dedicated to the destruction of the darkness that was the Burning Legion--and provided with passage away from their ancestral homeworld. The Draenei fled, and the Burning Legion was left with its prize--the grand world of Argus, and much of the once noble Eredar race. And Drustai had made the choice to be a part of it.
For thousands of years, Drustai participated in the survival-of-the-fittest society of Man'ari Eredar. The Burning Legion grew in strength, encorporating demonic creatures of all kinds. Worlds were ravaged, and Drustai watched, and helped, in the subjugation, manipulation, and destruction of countless species. Though lingering memories of a more peaceful life drifted across the back of her mind, the Eredar society was too brutal to allow such thoughts to take hold for long, and Drustai found herself competing for the top, as her soul became blackened by darkness and her mind dipped on the edge of madness. She became a mindless minion of the Burning Legion, one of many pawns in Sargeras' campaign of chaos.
However, as her mind lost its sanity and her heart hardened, the dedication and love she once held towards her crafts began to wane. Eager to exploit such a weakness, the other Eredar quickly passed her by, casting Drustai aside into more menial tasks and responsibilities. In all too short a time, Drustai found herself on the lowest rung of demonic society, barely above the Sayaad, creatures of the Void, and other beasts of servitude. Made to wear Shackles of Binding, Drustai became so weak that the practitioners of the dark arts from mere mortal races could pull her from the mystical nether and command her in their menial tasks.
As she fell, it began to become all too apparent to her that she had become a part of something terrible. She soon began to desire to turn away from the Burning Legion, but she had not the strength to do so. The Shackles bound her to mortal masters and Fel energy and fear tied her to demonic overlords. Though she struggled to break free, all was in vain. She had became one of the many tortured souls forced into service of the Legion.
Enduring such torment for thousands of years, Drustai's emotions boiled and turned inwards. She began to despise herself for the choices she had made, for having accepted the offer of the Great Destroyer instead of listening to Velen's wise words. She saw herself as a vile creature of sin and darkness, and her mind descended into self-loathing insanity, and her brief period of clarity became overrun by mindless hate. She was a disgusting creature, worthy only of the torment that she was forced to endure. No longer did she struggle against what she had become, and she once again accepted it, as punishment for everything wrong she had done.
And yet, by some twist of fate, or perhaps the enigmatic workings of the Holy Light, Drustai would not be forever bound to her servitude. For when the Pit Lord Magtheridon opened the Dimensional Gateways to Draenor and began calling in armies of demons to the world, Drustai would be one of those servants. And thus, despite all chances otherwise, Drustai would be allowed to reunite with her former people. Fleeing from her demonic overseers, she was lucky enough as to be spared and taken captive by the Draenei.
Though many wanted her executed out of revenge for the slaughters that she had unwantingly helped commit, she was instead spared by the compassion of the Prophet Velen, and granted a second chance.
Her first few weeks following her rescue were difficult, at best. Though Velen did much to aid her, he was often busy seeing to the future survival of his people and unable to spare her any time. As such, Drustai often would find herself hiding away from the other Draenei, feeling as if they shunned her, and hated her, just as she hated herself. A spiritual excursion to the ruins of Shattrath on advice of Velen nearly tore her apart, as she was able to witness first-hand the destruction that had been done to her people by the Legion.
In an effort to seek redemption to her sins, Drustai turned to becoming a Priest of the Holy Light of the Naaru. Such an act was two-fold, for it allowed her not only the penitention she sought, but also the quiet refuge of meditation to hide away from the rest of Draenei society. Unfortunately, she was unable to fully absolve herself from her evils, and even still the shadows cling to her, threatening to pull her back into darkness.
Following the attack of Kael'thas' Blood Elves upon the Tempest Keep and the flight of the Exodar to Azeroth, Drustai has sought to prove herself against the demons of this new world. However, despite the urgings of Velen to treat the member-races of the Alliance with respect and compassion, Drustai finds herself unable to place any value in them. She has condemned the entire human race for its tolerance of warlocks within its ranks, and regards the other races with little more than indifference. Her experience with the manipulation and subjugation of countless races by the Burning Legion has made her unable to accept that anyone can resist the temptations of darkness, and she believes that even those who may have a good heart, but use dark powers, deserve to be executed before they can be used as a tool for the Burning Legion. However, Drustai realizes that her beliefs are at odds with Velen's, and, not wishing to cause him anymore grief than he has already suffered, is slowly trying to learn to see the humans and the Alliance with a more positive light.
In the meantime, she seeks ever constantly to battle the forces of darkness, both on this new world, and the shadows within herself. However, redemption is difficult, and Drustai's strength of will is beginning to wane.
Character Description:
If one were to sum up Drustai in a single word, it would be 'lost'. Though she feigns confidence and portrays a hardened, sophisticated exterior, a great many emotions rage within her soul. She is a wanderer and an outcast, and though she has not been officially exiled from Draenei society, she forces herself to believe otherwise. In effect, Drustai hates herself. The choices she has made in the past weigh heavily upon her, and she makes sure to never forget nor forgive her fall into darkness, the same fel darkness that lingers still and constantly struggles to pull her back into its clutches. As such, Drustai is in a quest of repentance. She is desperate in making up for her evils, though believes that nothing she can ever do will absolve her of her sin, even with Prophet Velen's guidance.
Even then, Drustai is still at weakness to her own ambitions. Unlike many Draenei, Drustai does not take her species' long life for granted, and is not only aware of, but afraid of death, especially with the knowledge that many Draenei have already been slain in the past several years. While she is confidant in her own command of the various considerable magical energies she wields, she can quickly break down if ever forced into a situation where she does not have access to her sorceries to protect her. Such fear threatens to pull her back into darkness, as she has lost much of her faith in the ability of mortals to withstand the might of the Burning Legion after her millenia of exposure to the manipulation and destruction of countless mortal races. Though she dreads the thought, if given the choice to rejoin the Burning Legion, she would be highly tempted.
As such, Drustai tries to distract herself by recklessly throwing herself into whatever tasks she can to aid the Draenei. In particular, she actively seeks out sites infested by demonic forces, in the hope to slay as many as she can and, if possible, shut down whatever gateways the demons use to access this world. Despite this, however, Drustai longs for the peaceful life she has never been able to experience. She can often be found observing and watching the conversations of others from a distance. Yet she will often shy away from social activities, as she believes she lacks the experience, and even worthiness, needed to partake in such situations. In a way, she believes it is a just punishment for herself.
Abilities:
Drustai is extremely skilled as a practitioner of magic. Even before the coming of Sargeras, Drustai spent much of her time studying and practicing her magical abilities, and her trials within the Burning Legion only served to further temper and hone her skills. Though she is far weaker now than she has been in the past, she is still able to command various powerful mystic arts. Unfortunately, the magicks she currently wields are still very much influenced by Fel energies, and Drustai is suffering from the same magical addiction that plagues many users of arcane and demonic magicks, much like the Sin'dorei. Though she is struggling to embrace the Holy Light and redeem herself, she lacks the willpower to fully give up the dark energies she has long wielded.
